The Wharf Tavern is a family run pub, established 70 years ago by Dick and Kathleen Grainger. The original Wharf Tavern building has stood on the site since 1850 and retains some of its traditional Victorian features including its “tap room”.
Dick and Kath built up The Wharf since they first opened its doors in 1945, from a one-room drinking establishment to the pub we know today: it now has a larger bar area, function room, accommodation rooms.
Sadly, Dick passed away in the summer of 2010 and Kath followed him in February 2011.Though they will be greatly missed by family, friends and customers, the Grainger family have decided the best tribute they can pay them is to keep the pub going – even at a time when many traditional pubs are closing.
As the times have changed, so is it time for a few updates; as well as keeping all the features The Wharf’s regulars know and love, the new manager Terry Grainger is starting a new programme of events at The Wharf – check the rest of the page for details.
