In West Bagborough on the flanks of the Quantock Hills, The Rising Sun was constructed around 16th-century cob walls. The pub dates back to1573 and, was originally called The Shepherd’s Crook but known to the villagers simply as Crook
Today we still have the magnificent (if a little quirky) original front door, original beams and more than 80 tons of solid oak timbers which give the pub its special feel.
In 2000, the village nearly lost their local when the pub was gutted by fire. The Rising Sun has since been rebuilt and is now owned by Linda, who together with her daughter Amanda work tirelessly with their team to offer a warm and welcoming pub with an understated, contemporary edge.
There’s an informal bar, known by the locals as ‘the riser’, a piano room, snug and high in the rafters, a dining room with views that unfurl to Exmoor.
We believe we have a truly unique setting to enjoy our locally sourced food, beers and wines.
Our signature ‘steak-on-the-stone’ with gourmet salts and a peppercorn sauce never fails to ‘wow’ diners and is an amazing spectacle as well as a fantastic plate of food.
Welcome to The Rising Sun
