One mile east of Kelvedon and two miles from Tiptree, The Old Crown stands in the centre of the village where Queen Boudica is reputed to have fought her last battle against the invading Romans. Things have been much more peaceful since those times. The new tenants Mark and Karen who are also the chefs will ensure that your visit to The Old Crown is warm, welcoming and memorable. Log fires keep things cosy in the comfortable bar and lounge areas, where cask ales from the Suffolk-based Greene King Brewery are always on tap, along with regularly changing guest ales and a good selection of wines and spirits. The restaurant specialises on seasonal local produce that is cooked fresh to order by our fully trained chefs. Traditional steamed Steak & Kidney pudding, Fish Pie, Award winning Sausages & Mash with onion gravy are just a few of the traditional dishes that are served. All of our meat is supplied by the widely acclaimed local butchers, G.Millin’s in Tiptree. We are very proud to be able to offer rare breeds of meat such as Gloucester Old Spot Pork and all of our beef is hung for a minimum of 28 days. The lunchtime menu offers lighter meals along with our fresh baked bread sandwiches; we also have a good choice of roasts on Sunday. The Old Crown has a car park to the rear, and also has a small beer garden also at the rear of the pub. The entertainment evenings at The Old Crown are fantastic, with live music on a regular basis and a quiz night every 2nd Thursday of the month, with cash prizes up for grabs. So come and join us today we look forward to seeing you soon.
