Detailed Information

Amongst the hills, Churches & rural beauty of the small village of West Chinnock sits this quirky but interesting & uniquely named pub The Muddled Man (please read how it got its name  on the History Page). An Inn that encourages a sense of humour but takes food, real ales and whisky very seriously. The pub occupies a building that was built around 1650; It was originally intended as weavers cottages, then licensed as a cider house in the early 1890’s,and has taken on a number of names & forms since, for this reason the only parking is on the road shared with the Village School so during term time the cars parked outside at lunch time may be for the school & not for the Pub.In the case of large groups we have access to parking off the road for most of the cars by prior arrangement   The beer garden at the front of the pub catches the sun all day long, and with the hanging baskets and flower troughs in bloom throughout the summer is a great place to sit in the Sunshine. When the Weather is at its worst then the large Hamstone  hearth at the end of the bar, and its small but friendly bar area, has a warm and welcoming feel all year round.   Even if you are a local or not or have come from the other side of the world as many Australian & New Zealander’s have found when looking  to trace there ancestors who left at the end of the 19th to emigrate to the new world like many from the local area. You will find a warm & friendly welcome here but please remember to bring your sense of humour with you.   As members of the British Institute of Innkeepers they pride themselves on the quality of the beer (So of course the most important thing you will find here is Cask Marque quality assured SIBA real ales from the south west of England on the three hand pumps, while at Christmas there is  always  a couple of winter warmers (normally over 7%) straight from the barrel.  Most of the breweries used qualify for CAMRAs Locale status. They are proud to have been in CAMRAs Good Beer Guide since 2001).We also stock a local cider, as well as one or two malt whiskies (over fifty actually) for you to try. Not just a drinking pub, the Muddled Man Inn serves some of the best rustic food in the area, prepared using locally farmed produce. So if your looking for a reasonably priced meal without the pretentious bits (they dont have slates or wooden boards for plates, nor triple cooked chips in a cup on the side), then they offer a good selection of real traditional English pub comfort food. Cooking  there own hams and have the sausages and burgers made by a local butcher. While the Friday Real Ale Battered fish is sourced from Bridport in West Bay.  You can choose anything from a simple starter of  home-made soups to fillet steaks, burgers and delicious deep filled pies, or why not try one of our home made curries. The Sunday Roast is to something to try with freshly cooked (Pork & Beef, sometime Lamb with Chicken a Pre-ordered request) Sunday Morning with seasonal vegetables coming strait of the Farm in Shepton Beauchamp. Please pre-order if there are Vegetarians in your Party as this will aid the Kitchen on the Day.(Please note that only Roasts or salads available at this Meal times the Kitchen is Small & fryer space is need for the service of the Roasts.)   If you have any special dietary requirements then just enquire at the bar and they should be able to cater for any needs.   For private parties of more than ten people they can always prepare something especially for you with prior notice.    The bar is fully wheelchair-accessible with a disabled toilet situated nearby.  As for the weary traveller there are two twin on-suite bedrooms for Bed & Breakfast with this being a small rural pub there is very little night traffic to keep you awake at night.    There is also a large skittle alley/function room which can seat up to 80 for formal dinners or 100 for buffets. They also welcome well behaved Dogs Owners  & Parents .ITS NOT THE DOG OR CHILDS Fault They are Here.
