The Old Talbot public house is the only traditional two bar inn situated in the village of Hilton, Derbyshire and is run by Dave and Tina Rieley. Dating from 1520A.D. approx, The Old Talbot, now a grade II listed building, was probably built as an Ale House as the existence of a Malt drying Kiln on the back of the main fireplace in the lounge testifies. We are lucky to have active pool and darts teams as well as the Old Talbot Angling Club. The Hilton Athletic football club is also supported by use. Our free quiz nights are held on Mondays and Wednesdays; they start at 9.00 and are always popular. Our aims are quite simple – to provide a warm, clean and friendly environment providing The Old Talbot is predominantly an Ale pub. Our standard flagship ales are Marstons Pedigree and Draught Bass. However, we are keen to bring as much variety and choice to the pub, to give our customers a taste challenge and so have two hand pumps dedicated to guest beers. We would like to think that we offer a wide range of drinks to help you enjoy your visit to the Old Talbot. Our main quiz nights are on Monday and Wednesday evenings. These are free to enter and are open to teams or individuals on the night. These quizzes are well supported so a fun filled evening is typical. Prizes are presented to the wining teams or individuals. Tuesday night is poker night at The Old Talbot. We are taking part in the Poker Pockets national league, which is based on playing for points with winners from each pub taking part in regional and possibly national championships. As a bit of fun, Thursday night is Wii night. If you are 18 and over, then come along and challenge a friend to the sport of your choice – it is not everyday you can play tennis in a pub while enjoying your favourite drink. We also show televised major sporting events from terrestrial channels. We are unable to justify the costs of the combined Sky and Setanta sports packages. So if you’e looking for a bit of fun any day of the week, or if you just fancy a quiet drink with friends, come and join us at The Old Talbot.
